I am a non-binary, interdisciplinary artist trained in theatrical lighting design and dance. Since losing my father at a young age, I have known that life, like every theatre production, is ephemeral. In my work, I honor the legacies of theatre artists I’ve known who left this world too soon, and I feel closest to them when I lose myself in movement and color.
In January 2020, I designed and performed a twenty-minute solo dance performance as my Master of Fine Arts thesis project. While dancing, I controlled the lights using a combination of video game movement tracking technology and a remote lighting control app. In the performance, and in my work going forward, I explore the intersection of my identities as a non-binary person, a dancer, and a lighting designer.
